Stealth Win 2012 A.M.R.H.L. Championship
The Sherwood Park Stealth have won their second league title in the last three years. The Championship series came down to the third and deciding game between the aforementioned Stealth and the Edmonton Backhanders. The teams did not disappoint by delivering an intense, physical, hard fought final tilt.
The Backhanders controlled the opening minutes of the game and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by the twelve minute mark in the first half with two beautiful goals from Jeremy McKibbon and team leading scorer, Jiri Prochazka. The Stealth quickly responded with a goal of their own a couple of minutes later from Brayden Stauch. Just before the end of the first half Sammy Spurrell one timed a beautiful pass from Brett Lewis into the back of the net on the powerplay to knot the game up at two going into the final half of play.
The teams started the second half much like the first; physical board play and high intensity was seen all over the floor with scoring chances coming for both sides. Both Denny Stephens (Backhanders) and emergency call-up Tommy Nixon (Stealth) stood their ground for their respective teams.
At the thirteen minute mark the Stealth took the lead on Sammy Spurrell's second of the night. The teams continued to go back and forth with scoring chances and the Backhanders were able to obtain a powerplay in the final minutes of the game. After some great penalty killing from the Stealth, they were able to pick off a pass just as the penalty was expiring, resulting in a 3 on 1. Jeremy Cowan made no mistake and the Stealth took a 4-2 lead with a minute and a half to play.
The Backhanders made it interesting in the final minute, cutting the lead to 4-3 after Kelly McLain blasted one home, but as the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Stealth emerged as the winners.
We would like to congratulate the Backhanders on their first place finish in the regular season; an amazing year which saw them only lose 1 regulation game all season up until the finals.
And finally, big congratulations to the Sherwood Park Stealth on their championship season! We look forward to seeing what the 2013 season will bring next year!

SPINLINE and Edmonton Inline are very excited to announce a merger of the top tiers from each of their respective leagues for the 2012 season. Together, we introduce “Alberta Men’s Roller Hockey League” (AMRHL), which brings together 13 great roller hockey teams.
As a league, we will continue to work closely with SPINLINE and Edmonton Inline, but are now operating as a completely separate body. This expansion provides an opportunity for all players living in Sherwood Park and Greater Edmonton Area to play more competitive roller hockey.
2012 General Information:
The AMRHL will consist of 12-14 adult (18 and Over) teams of elite caliber. The games will be scheduled Monday through Sunday (excluding Saturdays) between 6:00-10:00PM at either Millennium Place or Russ Barnes Arena. The league will be scheduled to start April 16, 2012 and end June 28, 2012. No games will be scheduled during the May Long weekend (May 18-21, 2012).
The franchise captains from previous year, and the designated new ones, must notify The Operations Director (Cam Pitchers) or League President (David Filewich) by Sunday, March 11, 2012 of their intentions for the upcoming season. Failure to do so will result in the forfeit of the franchise rights. A refundable bond in the amount of $300 will be due by the Annual Captain's Meeting on Sunday, March 18, 2012. The registration fees of $2,500/team will be due Sunday, April 8, 2012. These fees cover the cost of prize money, league events, referees, timekeepers, insurance, etc.
We are also pleased to announce that Edmonton Inline has officially voted in favour of putting a floor into Russ Barnes, so all games will be played on sport court!
