2014 AMRHL Champions - Revision Rockies
The Revision Rockies were victorious in a dramatic overtime game to win their first championship in franchise history. It was a heated match-up that featured lead changes, a dying second tying goal and plenty of back and forth chances.
The Rockies got off to a good start, jumping out to an early lead following a Brendan Baumgartner goal. The Backhanders clawed their way back and took the lead at the half on the back of three points by Jiri Prochazka and a vintage Kelly McClain slapshot through Rockies' affiliate goalie, Ewen MacPherson.
The Backhanders added their fourth goal on a HON candidate goal by Jeremy McKibbon. The Rockies were able get back into the game, closing their deficit to 4-3 in the dying minutes thanks to a dominant three point performance by grizzled Rockies veteran, Kellen Kunyk. Then, with 15 seconds left and MacPherson pulled for an extra attacker on the floor, JJ Spady tied the game up with a knucklepuck from the halfwall.
Both teams traded chances in a fiercely contested overtime period before Jarret Evans fought off a check to feed the puck to JJ "Golden Goal" Spady who buried the game winning goal with 6 minutes remaining in the overtime period. Spady immediately did his part by wiping the dust off the floor with his glove before joining his teammates for the celebration.
Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought final series and all teams on a well played season.
